So, like many of you I’ve heard the news of the one person who stopped to clean President Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. If you haven’t then learn all about that here. I on the other hand started thinking after hearing this and want to talk about the real stars, the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is an iconic landmark that has been honoring the legends of the industry since the walk was first introduced with the first 1,558 stars in 1958. The Walk has become a great tourist attraction that’s free to walk about it and gawk at all the industries finest names. The walk continues to grow with on average two names being added every month. Getting a star isn’t so easy as there are many stipulations to reaching acceptance in that a star has to be nominated, there’s $30,000 fee, the star must give permission to be nominated and promise to attend the ceremony as The Hollywood Walk of Fame refuses to be stood up. The walk breaks up stars featured into the five categories: Motion Pictures, Live Theater/Performance, Television, Recording and Radio. Surely identifying the stars on the walk should be easy right, well I say let’s put that to the test. Quick note, I tried you to give some space in between to the reveal of the answer but if you don’t trust yourself than go play along here. The answers will be fogged out until you click on it and views on this site goes a long way towards supporting me but the decision is up to you. So without further ado, let’s see what you know?
The Hangover Trio
The 2009 hit comedy about a bachelor party gone haywire as a group guys venture around Las Vegas in search of the missing groom had made many fans for the film’s stars. Bradley Cooper continued to roll after the comedy franchise earning Oscar cred with Silver Linings Playbook and American Sniper. Zach Galifianakis has continued being Hollywood’s funny man gracing both TV and screen with his weird oddball sense of humor. Ed Helms might be the dark horse in this group, but don’t forget Ed Helms has been very productive working as a voice actor (Captain Underpants, The Lorax), has worked on TV as well, and even took up the lead role in the Vacation reboot. So, who here holds the star? Click to read the spoiler to find out.
The Answer: Should come to no surprise to most that Bradley Cooper owns the star here. Cooper was inducted last year in 2016. While Helms and Galifianakis have respectable careers, it should be understandable the two have quite a bit of ways to go before reaching star status.
Haha good meme, I can hear you saying. “Shrek can’t have a star, he’s not even a real person” good point but that’s not true. The first fictional star was rewarded to none other than Mickey Mouse. Since then only a handful cartoons have graced the walk including: The Simpsons, Bugs Bunny, and Donald Duck. With that said, is the big green ogre large enough to earn himself a place among the walk?
The Answer: Shrek is the all-star and one of those stars includes his place on the walk. Hollywood is Shrek’s swamp and they love him there, Shrek got his star in 2010 and continues to be one of the staples of CGI animation and pop culture referencing comedies.
The cowboy Gene Autry is nothing short of a legend. The man’s IMDb is flooded with his 99 Actor credits and 186 Soundtrack credits. Autry has scattered himself across all sects of the industry but is it possible he stretched himself across too thin. Is it possible the walk has forgotten this legend?
The Answer: To anyone who said no… you are very, very wrong. Of course, Gene Autry has earned himself a star. Gene Autry actually has more than one and actually holds the record for being the only man to earn a star in each of the five categories. Congrats to Autry on his five stars to grace the walk and ensure his legacy in each aspect he thrived in.
It was not long ago when everyone had made fun of the actor’s baffling mystery of how that Oscar had been long alluding him. DiCaprio finally silenced his critics when he took home the gold with his Oscar winning performance in The Revenant. However, was the Oscar the only thing missing from Leo’s illustrious career? Or is it possible that DiCaprio is absent from the long list of stars with stars?
The Answer: For as great his performances are, you actually won’t find a star dedicated to Leo no matter how hard you look. Actually, it is reported that DiCaprio has even failed to be nominated. Apparently, the role of The Great Gatsby is not so great in securing a spot as fellow Jay Gatsby actor, Robert Redford is also snubbed from the walk. I’m sure just like that Oscar Leo will eventually find himself in the club, but again I guess we’ll have to wait for it.
Probably, one of the most delightful rises to fame in recent years Chris Pratt has turned from Parks and Recreation fan favorite to headlining franchise after franchise. Whether it be him starring in Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy, or The Lego Movie, Chris Pratt has undeniable become a star but does he own a star.
The Answer: He doesn’t have to be Star-Lord to be seen among the stars as he is featured among the walk. Pratt got his star in April of 2017 and was very humbled by the induction. Pratt continues to be a fun and humble guy continuing to resonate with fans and co-workers that are proud of what he’s accomplished and he will continue to do with his stardom.
Clint Eastwood or Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson has a special set of skills and has been an action star who has been featured on screen mentoring the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Bruce Wayne. He also gave the touching performance as Oskar Schindler in Spielberg’s classic Schindler’s List. Is that enough to beat out Dirty Harry himself. Whether it’s as the toughest cowboy, the old man, or from behind the director’s chair Eastwood has his fingerprints all over Cinema. Both are respected action stars, but who has the star?
The Answer: The star belongs to Neeson. To be fair Clint Eastwood has been nominated numerous times but doesn’t show any interest in taking the time to receive it. There’s a place reserved for Eastwood if he’ll ever take it, but as for now he’s okay without one.
The Dearly Departed
2016 was a rough year in terms of the death of many icons. Every year we seem to lose those we have cherished through the years but it seemed that 2016 especially wad filled to the brim with grim news. Muhammad Ali was one of the most dominant boxers and athletes of all-time. David Bowie and Prince both blessed the world with their wonderful music. Carrie Fisher was the iconic space princess of Star Wars franchise and supported the industry in becoming a script doctor. All these stars are worthy of their legacy but who among them owns a star.
The Answer: Muhammad Ali is the greatest so no surprise when it comes to being among the stars. Muhammad Ali is a special case as boxing is considered a “live performance” to include the greatest. Ali also refuses to be stepped on, to honor that wish Ali is the only star hung on a building alongside the street. Of course, the stars would not be the same without the presence of Ziggy Stardust. David Bowie has his place among the stars but unfortunately, Carrie Fisher and the artist formerly known as Prince are absent. While you might think their inductions are right around the corner, it sadly does not work that way. Stars are not eligible until after five years after their passing. Each year a space is reserved for a posthumously nominated star meaning that after the wait it only will be a matter of time. However, both these stars and late Wham! Lead singer George Michael all received custom fan made star vigils to honor the greatness of these fallen stars.
Robert De Niro
Robert De Niro is arguable one of the greatest actors of all-time. Well respected and well known De Niro should have his place among the walk, but does he?
The Answer: Robert De Niro is included of the list of stars placed right next to Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Leonardo DiCaprio of stars who have never been nominated. Denzel Washington, George Clooney, and Al Pacino never set a date when it comes to accepting the nomination. The Walk of Fame certainly is prestigious but it is a real shame that there are noticeable absentees such as these. But hey, maybe they’re just something to look forward to.
The Walk of Fame has a fascinating history of honoring many stars and creating a tourist attraction to those who visit the streets of Hollywood. I hope you learned something new, as I sure did.
